Pasticcio production in eighteenth-century Milan
Demetrio by Pietro Pulli at the Regio Ducal Teatro (1748–1749)
Abstract
The article aims to enrich knowledge of eighteenth-century Italian opera by focusing on some unusual opera management procedures adopted during the production of Demetrio (1748-1749) at the Regio Ducal Teatro in Milan. Through an in-depth examination of correspondence exchanged between the Neapolitan composer Pietro Pulli (1710-1759), the Milanese authority (perhaps the impresario, an agent, or someone writing for him), and Giuseppe Baldan, a Venetian copyist, unpublished aspects of the opera's compositional process are examined.
