Donato Ricchezza (1651–1731) maestro di cappella dei Girolamini di Napoli:
Nuovi documenti biografici
Abstract
Donato Ricchezza, a composer active in Naples between the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, is still almost completely ignored by biographical and music dictionaries, despite the fact that a considerable output of sacred and oratorio music has come down to us, preserved in the Girolamini Archives in Naples. Through unpublished documents, the article makes it possible to better delineate the biography of this composer from the place and date of his birth (Matera, June 17, 1651) and death (Naples, March 2, 1731). Thanks to the documents, it has been possible to reconstruct his ecclesiastical career, as well as his formative years at the Conservatory of Santa Maria di Loreto and his long activity at the congregation of the Oratorio (Girolamini) in Naples, where he served first as organist and then as maestro di cappella, between about 1680 and 1716.
