La possibile replicabilità di una pratica corale, in una prospettiva solidale e inclusiva
Abstract
The impact of choral singing on psycho-physical well-being has been documented by numerous interdisciplinary studies. This essay aims to provide an empirical contribution to this body of research, focusing on amateur choral practice and exploring an additional dimension of social inclusion, such as access to employment, housing, and healthcare. Specifically, I will present the experiences of two individuals who, through the networks of solidarity developed within the choir Voci dal Mondo in Venice, have undergone significant transformations in their lives, going well beyond the psychological benefits of singing, with tangible effects on their stability and dignity. The purpose of this study, and the hope underpinning it, is to contribute to the discourse on the social value of choral singing. By reviewing the existing literature and presenting these firsthand accounts, I aim to encourage a broader dissemination of community music practices in Italy. It is hoped that such initiatives will find a place not only in contexts of vulnerability, such as reception centres, rehabilitation communities, day centres and nursing homes, but also in educational settings, including schools and
universities, as well as workplaces such as companies and industries, thereby promoting both well-being and social cohesion.
