This contribution describes a teaching experience whose goal was to verify if and how the Pilates method can be a tool to be included in vocal teaching with beginner singing students, favoring the development of body awareness and proprioception to improve the breathing mechanism and posture. As singing is an activity that involves the body-instrument in its entirety, and having observed that beginner students generally have a limited perception of their body, I wanted to identify in this method a useful tool that would allow exploring the mechanisms of breathing and those of correct posture, avoiding an overly theoretical approach to what is identified as one of the most delicate challenges in teaching this instrument. The results of the intervention, which saw the introduction of this method in the individual lessons of three students for a period of two months, highlighted how this method is, from several points of view, a valuable element in supporting the development of greater awareness of one's body, breathing, and posture in singing.
